Perkins Cove Plein Air
Over the weekend, I participated in the 4th annual Perkins Cove Plein Air event in Ogunquit, Maine - it's my favorite weekend of the year! I look forward to it every September, and this year was my fourth time participating since the inaugural event in 2021. I love how much the event has grown in the past years with more and more artists participating (especially fellow watercolor artists!) and now it's really a gathering of all of my art friends in one place where we can catch up with each other and meet other new artists. It's so much fun!
This year was a little different for me... I had some company with me for the weekend instead of going by myself. My family came up with me, which added a different element that I haven’t had in the past: painting while also taking care of a three month old. I’m so happy with how well she did over the weekend (our first overnight stay) and even though I was up at 4am the day of the event, the energy of the artists painting around me and catching up with friends during the day kept me going. All of this would not have been possible without my amazing and super supportive husband, taking care of her while I painted, who knew how important this day was to me.
For whatever reason, I swung big this year (literally) in painting my largest plein air piece to-date, 10x20. Pretty ambitious when I haven’t plein air painted at all this year! I also meant to get photos of my painting during the event like I do every year, but my mind was preoccupied with making sure the baby wasn’t fussing too much and was taking her naps. I knew this year was going to be different, so I rolled with the punches with my painting, enjoying the beautiful weather, scenery and camaraderie. Looking forward to next year already!
