Meet the Artist

Lucinda Hamilton

My work explores what happens when we slow down and take the time to really notice what’s around us. I paint ordinary moments and familiar places that might otherwise pass unnoticed: light falling across a building, boats resting in a quiet harbor, or children playing on a summer afternoon. Through painting, I try to preserve not just what these moments looked like, but how they felt, capturing something of their beauty, their stillness, and their place in our lives.

I grew up in a home where making things was part of everyday life. My mom sewed our clothes and made quilts, my dad built furniture and baked bread, and my sister loved to draw. Beauty wasn’t decoration; it was care and attention, a way of expressing love. That upbringing shaped how I see the world and continues to influence my work today. I find meaning in the familiar, in the places that ground us and the seemingly small moments that become part of who we are.

Today, my work is shaped by the experience of raising a young daughter while also becoming more aware of the passage of time and the aging of the people I love. Through my daughter, I find myself rediscovering the wonder of childhood, while also feeling how fleeting these years are. This awareness has deepened my desire to paint the moments and places I want to remember, knowing that even the most ordinary days can become some of our most treasured memories.

In a world that often asks us to move faster and pay attention to more, painting offers me a way to slow down and be present, to quiet the noise. It is how I make sense of my surroundings, hold on to what matters, and remind myself that small moments are not small at all.

I hope my paintings invite others to pause and look more closely at their own lives, to reconnect with a place they love, a memory they carry, or a moment they wish they could hold on to a little longer.
