Meet the Artist
Lucinda Hamilton
As a lifelong student always looking to try new things, Lucinda started painting at the beginning of 2020, having never picked up a paint brush before. Through steady practice and determination, the fluidity and unpredictable nature of watercolor had her hooked and trying to paint everything she could think of. Over time, through study with various teachers influential to her style, she began to incorporate an element of abstraction into her work.
Many of her original paintings today begin from photos from her travels around New England, places special to her, or her family.
Lucinda has a bachelor of Arts from Penn State and a MBA from the University of Massachusetts - Lowell. She is an active member of the Newburyport Art Association, Newton Watercolor Society, and the New England Watercolor Society.

Artist Statement
My artwork allows me to save creative space in my daily life and honor the practice of creating something from nothing. Life is overly complicated, and the simplicity of pushing around paint on paper or canvas to convey feelings or emotions I don’t have the words for grounds me in my human experience.
I paint with watercolor and acrylics because these mediums allow me to leave organic qualities visible in each piece and celebrate the imperfections that naturally occur. With multiple layers, the exploration of color and line, and using unconventional tools for creating texture, I process my thoughts and feelings through the abstraction of nature. I let the unpredictability of the medium guide me in the direction of each piece and rely on personal intuition with each mark or brush stroke. My paintings serve as a bridge between the physical and emotional worlds, capturing energy and emotion and giving it a visual form.
It is my hope that my work resonates with viewers and creates a personal connection with a memory, emotion, or leads to introspection of their own humanity and what is below the surface of everyday life.
